Since the late days of the 19th century, generations of lowlanders—many of them from the Carolinas—have come to Blowing Rock every summer seeking a cool refuge from the summer heat.
Today, Blowing Rock is a year-round resort. Some of its appeal:

Great skiing—both downhill and cross country—is nearby, the fall colors are glorious, and the mountain laurel blooms spring into summer.

The Blue Ridge Parkway runs along the edge of town, making this a convenient jumping off point for day trips north or south along the Parkway.

The university town of Boone (home of Appalachian State) is just over the next ridge with every modern amenity, plus a whole lot of culture.
Add great shopping, wild rivers, scenic waterfalls plus lots of trout and you have a great destination for a vacation, a weekend, or even a day trip.
