At
the annual Carolina Renaissance Festival, more than a decade
has past since the first cannon roared, the first lance shattered,
the first ale poured, and the first tomato splattered. The Renaissance
village of Fairhaven once again entertains thousands on autumn weekends,
Saturdays and Sundays, from October 4 to November 16, at one of
the most unique and anticipated yearly events in the region.
With multiple
stages and hundreds of costumed characters, the Festival transports
visitors back in time to a spirited sixteenth century faire delivering
a day filled with constant singing, dancing, swordplay, and laughter.

Knights joust
for the favor of fair ladies, the Royal Court mingles with its
subjects, and artisans work at their crafts amid raucous music
and roaring comedy, people-powered rides, and more demonstrations
of Medieval tomfoolery than you can shake a turkey drumstick at.
The 20-acre village built especially for this event lends
the sights and sounds of another time. With hundreds of booths
featuring hand-crafted items for sale, this festival is a wonderful
place to get started on that Christmas shopping, too.
The meandering
sixteenth century theme park is situated amid 240 beautiful acres
of woods and meadows just north of Charlotte, between the towns
of Concord and Huntersville at the junction of NC 73 and Poplar
Tent Church Road.
Surely, You Joust

Jousting,
the sport of kings,
is given a 21st Century roar of approval at the Carolina Renaissance
Festival. Jousting now, as 400 years ago, is a merrie sport: a
make-believe pageant of Sir Galahads and Sir Lancelots, of villainous
Black Knights versus virtuous Red Knights, mounted on thundering
steeds, plumes waving, chain mail clanking, as the crowd screams,
"Cheat to win!"

"Eat,
drink and be merrie!"
In
the tradition of his royal lifestyle, the King commands Festival
peasants and nobles to eat like kings at the Carolina Renaissance
Festival.

In
an atmosphere well suited for gluttony, you'll find fare suited
for royalty: the King's giant Roasted Turkey Drumstick, Steak
on a Stake, decadent desserts, beer and wine and a wide selection
of non-alcoholic drinks - just a few of the hallmarks of a lavish
Renaissance feast.
