This
IMAX movie at Discovery Place is about six people and their guide who
climb 19,340 feet of mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Kilimanjaro
is Africa's highest mountain and 15,000 people come to climb it every
year. The climb is hard because of severe climate and temperature changes,
and almost half of the people who start to climb Kilimanjaro don't make
it.
It takes the party several days to climb from the rainforest at the
bottom to the peak. The film follows them as they hike and camp and
talk over each day's adventure. Two of the main characters are Hansi,
a 13-year-old African boy, and Nicole, 12, from Massachusetts.
Along
the way, the team climbs through five different ecosystems-rainforest,
heath, moorland, alpine desert and glacier. Each has its beauty. The
glaciers at the top are by far the best.
If
you are afraid of heights, this movie may help you get over your fear.
All in all, it's a great movie.
